In First Year of College Football Playoff, The Overrated SEC is Exposed

BamaEmbarassed

Somehow saying “I Told Ya So” just isn’t enough.

While ESPN and the mainstream media fawned over the SEC, our site has remained consistent over the last 18 months. Never did we say that the SEC was a bad conference. Merely that they were vastly overrated, the product of sports media overhype mixed with the skilled art of avoiding the top competition from the other Power 5 conferences. For years we have been told they are great because they have to play each other and that they didn’t need to prove anything by playing the other conference’s big boys on the block. For years we witnessed a corrupted BCS bowl system pair SEC teams with much inferior competition, creating mismatches that assured the SEC the best conference bowl records year after year. And now in this, the first year of the College Football Playoff, the sham that the biased media has been feeding you all along has finally been EXPOSED. The SEC is no greater than any other conference when their teams pair up at the top.

Welcome to the party, gumps.

The so-highly regarded SEC West was 2-5 in bowls this season… in fact, they went 0-4 against 10 win teams. And for the first time in nearly a decade, an undeserving SEC champion hasn’t been ramrodded into the national championship game behind the push of a manipulative ESPN-led media propaganda parade. And it happened in the first year of the college football playoffs, the first year that SEC teams had to prove they belonged at the top before getting a shot at all the marbles.

The SEC nearly got their way. A fair playoff was never assured until the final week of the regular season. We professed for months that the incompetent ESPN-influenced College Football Playoff Committee (a.k.a. Clown Committee) would work their tails off to ensure AT LEAST two SEC teams in the top four to force another SEC title shot and vastly improve their odds. And it almost happened… it WOULD have happened were it not for a couple of fortunate games that transpired in rivalry week: The Ole Miss win over Mississippi State and the Georgia Tech victory over Georgia. This left the committee with only one viable SEC team, their only one loss team and conference champion, Alabama. The committee did give Alabama the (unearned) number one seed in what can only be described as a desperate attempt to give them the easiest path to the title (the closest proximity of any of the four teams to their game site to ensure easy travelling for their fans coupled with the matchup with a four seed, presumably the easiest team of the four). Oh how the committee misjudged that no amount of seed manipulation could save them from having to acknowledge that the SEC’s best was NOT better than the Big Ten’s best. And believe us, had the committee chosen TCU instead of Ohio State for that fourth position, the outcome against Alabama wouldn’t have likely been much different, if not worse, for the overrated Tide.

Alabama lost by 7 to Ohio State. And a quick look at the stat line will show you that the game shouldn’t have even been THAT close. This was not an upset folks. The Buckeyes dominated the Tide on BOTH sides of the ball, outpassing and outrushing Alabama enroute to rolling up 537 yards on what ESPN often touted as an NFL-caliber defense. This is a vast difference from Alabama’s one season loss to Ole Miss, a game in which Bama dominated by a 396-327 yard margin. This proved clearly that the loss to Ohio State was not a fluke, and furthermore that the SEC’s best could not compete with the Big Ten’s best.

So for the second year in a row, the SEC’s best took it on the chin to another conference’s champion. While this is very telling all by itself, it is not the only thing revealed by the 2014 bowl season. All season long, ESPN has been touting the SEC West as the “NFL” division of college football. Few questioned those comparisons, as heavy coverage of all these great SEC West showdowns dominated ESPN airwaves, with most of the lamestream sports media sheeple outside of ESPN following right behind.

Our site was one of very few sources that questioned week after week what earned the SEC this right to be considered so top notch. Both Alabama and Auburn had escaped near losses to mid pack Big 12 powers earlier in the season. And LSU benefitted from a late comeback win over Wisconsin thanks largely to an injury to their workhorse running back. Outside of those games, the SEC was piling up wins over mainly Sun Belt and Conference USA opponents, pounding their chests along the way. The hints were there along the way, but nobody with SEC goggles on were willing to acknowledge them: Missouri (the eventual SEC East Champ) getting beaten at home by Big Ten doormat Indiana; the worst SEC team (Vandy) losing to AAC doormat Temple; TAMU nearly losing at home to Louisiana Monroe; Mississippi State barely escaping SEC East doormat Kentucky; the ACC going 4-0 against the SEC East (explained away by SEC Chanters as unimportant since the SEC East was merely the “weak” half of the SEC, despite the fact that half was the only one actually winning bowl games). All along we told you all that the Mississippi schools were vastly overrated and were merely reaping the benefits of heavy SEC favoritism by the media, aided by a cupcake out of conference schedule and the fact that the flagship SEC programs Alabama and Auburn were having down years. You see, our point all along was that the Mississippi programs were NOT suddenly good just because they were in the SEC. Just the opposite… the Alabama teams were becoming more average and drifting down to the rest of the conference’s mediocrity. We often accused the SEC in the past of being top heavy. For the first year in a long time, that was no longer true. The league had more parity, and the SEC was top to bottom… AVERAGE!

This SEC bowl season, the conference was solidly favored in 9 of their 12 games. And all but one of their ranked teams were playing other teams they were solidly favored to beat, with that one exception being TCU-Ole Miss. In a matchup of 6 (TCU) versus 9 (Ole Miss), you would expect the game to be a damn good one, especially if the lower ranked team is in the all powerful SEC West! Well, how does 42-3 taste, chanters? Crazy fact is, TCU had the 42 in just three quarters of play, calling off the dogs in the final quarter to leave an ounce of dignity for the beaten Rebels to crawl away with. And if that game wasn’t revealing enough, Mississippi State got trucked by 15 points by the second best team in the ACC. Georgia Tech, the champ of the supposedly weakest division in all of college football (ACC Coastal), a same team that lost to DUKE, whipped Miss State like a red-headed step-child. Couple this with the Wisconsin victory over Auburn and the Notre Dame win over LSU, and it becomes very clear that the SEC West was the paper tiger that we told you all season they were.

While this playoff format still isn’t ideal (we will never know how far TCU could have made it if they too were in the final mix), the playoff system still managed to work in its first year. Had the old BCS formula still been in play, both Oregon and Ohio State never would have been able to prove they were the best teams in football right now, and an SEC champion would’ve been pushed into the championship game yet AGAIN when they didn’t belong. While an 8 team playoff that allows every Power 5 champion to compete is still the best option, in the end we see that even a 4 team playoff is far better than the corrupt SEC-biased BCS system ever was. Just think of all the years we allowed decisions to be made by SEC honks in the media along with coaches who bought into the SEC hype, then mixed all their opinions in with computers programmed by SEC-enamored morons to come up with rankings that allowed the SEC to compete with titles that in some years they didn’t even deserve. How many of the seven consecutive SEC champions would have won had there been a four team playoff? 2? Maybe 3 at best?

For once, NOW, we have a championship game without a media-driven overrated SEC contender… and why? Because these playoffs helped expose the truth… a hard fact for these SEC homers in the media to swallow… that the best in the SEC is NOT always the best in college football. And we may never know if they ever were.

It’s time to bring an end to this unbearable conference chanting, gumps. Pride in the “greatest football conference in America” is foolish and asinine, mainly because the SEC is NOT the greatest conference in America, and has shown it YET AGAIN. Of course the SEC has good teams. So does the PAC-12. And the Big Ten. And the Big 12. And even the ACC. Can you witless chanters see what we are saying here? There are great teams all across the USA! There is parity at the top across college football, and this has been shown this bowl season. The ACC is 5-3 against the SEC this season following the bowls. Does that make the ACC better than the SEC? Of course not. It means that 5 ACC teams and 3 SEC teams were able to win games against overmatched opponents in the other conference. Arkansas pounding Texas doesn’t make the SEC better than the Big 12 any more than TCU obliterating Ole Miss makes the Big 12 better than the SEC. Georgia hammering Louisville doesn’t make the SEC better than the ACC any more than Georgia Tech smoking Mississippi State makes the ACC better than the SEC. And this argument applies to every record between every conference. Where it counts is at the top. And at the top, the two best teams are NOT from the SEC. Period. Teams are teams. Teams aren’t conferences, folks. Conferences are simply loose associations of teams grouped by geography for financial and organizational purposes, which is why they are used in sports all across the world. SEC fans have to break out of their knuckle-dragging mouth-breather civil-war mindset… your teams aren’t joining together to fight against the world for independence, guys. They are playing football games. That wasn’t the battle of Gettysburg you lost, it was the Sugar Bowl. These teams are playing football. And they are no better than good teams in any other corner of the country. So take the advice of your favorite broadcasting chanter Brent Musberger, and DEAL WITH IT.

The SEC Superiority Fraud HAS been EXPOSED!

  1. I hear and believe what your saying and have been preaching this for years myself. But it dawned on me when I heard about the off-the-charts ratings espn received this bowl season, what if they were playing the rest of the college football fans/coaches/admin/boosters/etc…, in order to effect a change and that change was the nationwide cryout for a DIV I college football playoff? Just a thought. Otherwise, I can’t imagine the analyst (all of them) being this ignorant. I told several friends, both OSU and alabama, that OSU was winning that game in a convincing matter based on their season and that alabama was extremely overrated. How else could those idiots not see that? They have way more access than I and do this shit for a living.

  2. And you can wipe the shit eating grin off my face. Its so awesome to walk around at the store or eating out right now in the deep south. Its like someone took away christmas and their birthdays at once. Total exposure!

  3. How can anyone still say or defend tcu getting into the playoff. THEY LOST TO BAYLOR AND GAVE UP 61 POINTS, there defense is worse than Oregon’s which ranks 81st. If anything Baylor not tcu had a gripe as they won the head to head. Baylor losing to the 3rd best team in the big ten plus the big 12 going like 1-6 in bowl games shows they were a very weak conference who like the SEC got fat and happy on smu northwestern st and buffalo. On January 12th the two best teams ARE playing for the national title so you can finally shut the Fuck up about tcu

  4. You’re an idiot. Alabama “couldn’t compete”? It was 21-6 Bama in the second quarter. That didn’t happen by accident. The big difference in that game was the idiotic pick-6 by Sims. No one to this day knows what the hell he was trying to throw it to. The game went down to the wire, so don’t tell me it didn’t. Every OSU fan I know was biting their nails to the bone until that final second ticked off the clock.

And Alabama wasn’t matched up with an inferior Notre Dame or Texas team when they beat them in those BCS championship games. Alabama was the underdog in each contest. If the BSC is such an SEC driven bias machine then why didn’t it let undefeated Auburn play for the title in 2004?

    • Bama was a 5 point favorite against Texas and a 9 point favorite against ND. In 2012 ND was ranked #1 because they were undefeated. Bama fell out of their previous number #1 ranking after a loss.

Bama won those two aforementioned Championships fair and square in my book. Bama earned its selection to play in those NC games. However, I do object to Bama’s selection to play LSU in 2011. Their selection for a rematch with LSU appears to be due to over-ranking of SEC teams. Two 1 loss SEC teams were put in over a few other one loss teams. I would have loved to see what Stanford, OK ST, or even Boise State’s offense could have done against those two anemic SEC offenses that year. Of course, some will disagree.

  5. Kevin, get your head out of your ass. We all know that you can not look at rankings, or favored, or scores, or how a group of fans respond to a game -to understand football. Go posted somewhere else with fans who do not understand the game and want to talk about the past. We are talking about the present and future of football. The civil war is over and football is not a symbolic representation of that era.

The people here have been right all season long (-SEC trolls like yourself). Go look at our posts before the games at various threads and you will see that we understand football because our predictions were correct and yours were wrong. You can not come post SECPN trash here. SECPN is an entertainment network. That means that they make money by providing entertainment, and they do-I find them very LOL and regularly show up for the LULZ. You should not confuse entertainment for serious sports journalism because one thing is entertainment and the other thing is about providing accurate information and unbaised-analysis.

This place is for big girls and boys. Go sit at the kids table. Your elite QB could not make reads or check downs (hence the P6) or convert on 3rd. Your defense could not stop anything. The B1G ran a damn trick play on your defense for X-sake. Meyer did not respect yall at all, cuz last minute BOMB! You were beat by 3 strings jones in his second start. A punter could lead the bucks offense because the TEAM is deep and the TEAM has play-makers and athletes and better coaching and…………….

We all think that the S.U.C is gonna have a really hard time in the play-off era cuz they schedule themselves in such a way as to avoid hard back to back opponents. They do not turn around very well. If you watch their season in an unbiased way-you will see this. When they do have a series of deep teams, they fold like the paper tigers we all knew they were. Enjoy southern tailgating tho-it is vastly superior! Hands down-best in the country! Come on over to starkville, we will treat you right. But, we might beat yall next year tooo thoooo. Hail State!

  6. The SEC isn’t “down” — because the SEC, as a conference, was never “up” to begin with. Of course, rather than admit that the SEC has just plain been over-rated as a conference all along — that like EVERY conference EVERY year, it usually has one or two very good to great teams, a few decent teams, and a lot of also-rans — the SEC nut-lickers in the media are now desperately peddling the “rest of the conferences are catching up” nonsense.

Sorry, SECSPN fools, but the point is that the rest of the conferences never had to catch up with the SEC because from top-to-bottom, they were never behind. Sure, there have been some years where the TOP team has been from the SEC, just as there are years where the TOP team is from any of the other conferences — that didn’t magically transform the entire SEC conference into super-teams any more than FSU winning last year made the entire ACC a group of world-beaters. As for the SEC’s “title” run over the past decade, well, without a playoff, we’ll never know how many of those titles were legit. All we know from those titles is that the media put SEC teams into the title game — sometimes with a virtual home game — whether they earned their place there are not.

  7. Raider makes some good points. And although I disagree with the “everyone else is catchin up” narrative, I take that to mean “mea culpa”. Which basically means they all know they can not lick nick sabans boots next year.

I would like to thank the fan base and SEC media bias for giving us the playoffs. Without you guys, we would never be here. Yall pissed everyone off soooo much that the situation necessitated the playoff scenario we have now. From all of us, to all of you, bless your hearts!

  8. Ole Miss just bet #1 ranked UK in MBB and of course fans are interpreting that as how deep the SEC is as opposed to maybe…..I don’t know….UK is over-rated? Ha, inability to learn via experience.

  9. UK survives the deep SEC 89-86. Fan “I think we are stronger than people think” Sorry, they have a playoff in the sport and we all know how the SEC fairs every year. And now, the same will happen in Football.

  10. Sorry to go completely “Joey” here but admittedly Im MANIC. Just not in a scared but way pumped up! If you want hear the perfect example of SEC loser troll mentally follow the link to a podcast below.

They wanna do away with the playoffs and bring back the BCS system. Or maybe just keep the playoffs at 4, but absolutely not 8. This podcast is worth a listen for the LOLs and LULZ.

Podcast at the bottom of the page at this link:
    http://no2minutewarning.com/2015/01/episode-158-a-not-so-happy-new-year-for-the-sec/

  11. I have been making the point for years that the SEC has benefitted from media hype and over-polling. Here are the quality teams that the SEC avoided by not having a playoff during its 7-year “reign”:
    2006; 13-0 BSU, 11-2 USC
    2007: 11-2 USC, 11-2 WVA
2008: 12-1 Texas (inexplicably passed over for OU), 12-1 USC, 13-0 Utah
    2009: 14-0 BSU
    2010: 13-0 TCU, 12-1 OSU
    2011: 12-1 Ok St
    2012: 12- Ore

My bet is that the SEC would have won at most 4 out of 7 titles in those years. The best thing about the CFB playoff is that it neuters the SEC bias. It is laughable to anoint them “the best” when they run from tough OOC competition and barely play half their own conf. This years results should eliminate any talk of two SEC teams in the CFP next year as well.

  12. The SEC biased media will be in overdrive, lurking in the shadows waiting for a chance to beat their SEC drum/chants again next year; however, the good news is people will be more rigid to the SEC dominance BS with the CFB playoffs this season. People have very short memories and the SEC will push for an 8 team playoff sooner than expected to insure two SEC team representation for the CFB playoffs.

There were some great match-ups in bowl games this year, with or without the SEC.
    Long Live College Football.

    SECSECSECCHOKE

  13. I have been enjoying all the SEC obits I have been reading lately. Personally, I think an 8 team playoff would backfire if that process ensured 2 SEC teams. I mean, how would if look if each year those two teams were beat in the first round. I don’t think they would survive to the title game even if they had two in an 8 team system. Just look at the teams that would have competed this year. All, would have lost in the first round. Talk about making the SEC even more of a joke than it has already become.

  14. Thank you for the truth! Keep in mind, ESPN/ABC and their analysts all do exactly what Disney tells them to do. If you really want to expose something, find out who at Disney is driving this.

  15. Marcus Mariota is not doing well against the SEC killers of Ohio State. I don’t even know how he won the Heisman.

  16. This loss by Oregon should likely put Alabama and Mississippi State back into the title game. LOL.

Seriously, though, has anyone checked out the AP’s laughable final rankings? They kept that over-rated Bama team in the top 5, of course, but even worse, they put that horrible Mississippi State team at #11 and kept that absolutely terrible Ole Miss bunch of frauds at #17. #11 and #17 for getting throttled, beaten, crushed, smoked, put out, lit up again, and throttled, crushed, and smoked all over again in game after game down the stretch and in the postseason.

Never fear — the SEC bias is alive and well.

  17. Yeah, I love their rational too. Ohh, all these teams outside of the SEC are losing good players so even though they just beat the SEC in bowl games they won’t be as strong next year. But, all these SEC teams that are losing good players will replace them because of superior recruiting. Well, supposedly the SEC has always had superior recruiting and how is that working out for them so far. They need to do away with preseason rankings because teams that are told they are good, start believing the hype and then over-look other teams. Teams that are told they are average or bad start to see a playoff run as hopeless. I wish they would rank them after they have played about half of the season assuming they have a significant amount of OCC’s. I really think more quality OCC’s are coming during the regular season because of the playoffs-and that is good for football.

  18. I live in SC and hear the SEcPN crap all year. i loved the SEc west getting beat down right after the SEc east lost to ACC. Just proves that there are good teams in all Power 5 conferences. Expand the playoff to 8 and we will have what we need!

  19. In the settled dust. One thing that I think gets over-looked. Sure the SEC was 7-5 in the bowls, but what was their BEST bowl win? Seriously? UGA over Louisville? UT over Iowa? Mizzou over Minnesota? I guess one of those 3. (And Mizzou is still kind of a Big 12 team) None of those are great wins.

  20. It’s past time to let the TCU narrative go for good. Nobody could have beat Ohio State in the playoffs. They were the best team in the country outright this year. Give the Buckeyes their due credit already.

  21. LMAO the jealously of this writer is clear as day. He probably cried for 7 straight years when the SEC just kept winning. The SEC west got pushed around this bowl game and yet the SEC still had the best bowl record. The SEC will always be the best. They run the recruiting game, the run the TV Ratings, they run college football as a whole, they are an NFL pipeline aka NFLD2. I understand the hate for the SEC but the stats and numbers shut you up rather quick little boy. Try again maybe? BTW a guy who uses wordpress is just some troll trying to be popular. Scrub at it’s finest.

    • Maybe the best bowl record but zero wins of any magnitude. UGA over Louisville was probably the best SEC Bowl win…pretty pathetic. Now that we have a play-off the SEC will continue to get exposed. BTW love this comment by you: “The SEC west got pushed around this bowl game ” I’m sure you meant “Bowl Season” because it wasn’t just one game. But that’s SEC education for you (Unless you went to Vanderbilt)
